FAQs

  • What are the Wifi requirements for SimpleSensor?

SimpleSensor requires 2.4GhZ Wifi Signal. You can confirm you have this enabled on your Wifi router or on Android the SimpleSensor app will notify you if you are not using 2.4GhZ Wifi frequency.

  • How long will the batteries last?

In the default configuration tests have shown that a SimpleSensor device will last 12 months on a single set of batteries. The strength of the Wifi signal can play a role in how long the batteries last, so if the device is far from the Wifi router, the device may not last for 12 months on a single set of batteries given the default configuration.

  • How do I know when the batteries are out?

SimpleSensor will send a push notification if the batteries run out or the SimpleSensor no longer is able to send messages to the internet. SimpleSensor may not be able to send messages to the internet if the internet provider has an outage or perhaps you've changed the Wifi network password. In the case of changing the Wifi network password, SimpleSensor would need to be reconfigured.

  • How do I make the batteries last longer?

You can configure the SimpleSensor to send messages to the internet less frequently which will ensure the batteries last longer. Sending messages less frequently does not affect open/close or flood detection as those messages are sent immediately once detected.

  • How do I troubleshoot if my SimpleSensor is sending data?

Look in the SimpleSensor app, at the sensor details to find the date and time of the last data received from your sensor. You can also press the top of the device to trigger a test message that will be sent to your phone. The test message is confirmation that your SimpleSensor is configured correctly and connected to your Wifi.

  • What happens when my SimpleSensor detects water?

An audible noise will emit from the SimpleSensor device so that anyone nearby can know that water has been detected. In addition, a push notification is sent, when configured, to your phone.

  • How do I share my SimpleSensor with someone else?

In the SimpleSensor app, once you select a location (default is Home), you can then click the gear in the upper right hand side in order to share notifications and data about that SimpleSensor. Simply enter an email address of the person you want to share with and they will receive an invitation to view and manage your SimpleSensor.

  • How can I organize multiple SimpleSensors?

If you have multiple physical locations (a home and a vacation home or work), you can add new locations to organize SimpleSensors so you know where they are physically located.

  • How can I test my SimpleSensor to ensure its working?

You can press the top of the device to trigger a test message that will be sent to your phone. The test message is confirmation that your SimpleSensor is configured correctly and connected to your Wifi.

  • How do I configure alerts for open/close?

Using the bell icon on the sensor details screen in the app, you can configure open/close notifications to notify you on every open or close for a door or window. You can also be notified if a door or window has been left open after a certain period of time. This setting is typically used when doors or windows open frequently and you don't want notifications every time but you want to know when something has been left open.
